EXCEL English Program Description
General English Programs (GEP)
CPC’s General English Program (GEP) is divided into a unique two-track
system that is designed to better serve students with different needs
and abilities. These communication-based programs, which offer classes
for all levels, make up the core of CPC’s curriculum.
Track 1: The English Proficiency Program (EPP) is an eight-level program designed to accommodate long-term students studying for three months or more. This program is for those who anticipate entering a regular course of study at the college level or for those who would like to gain a deeper understanding of the English language.
EPP classes are available in the morning from 09:00 to 13:00 and in the afternoon from 13:10 to 17:10.
Track 2: Chitchat Café (click here to read more)
This is an intensive conversation class for beginner to low intermediate level students. This program is designed to enhance the conversational skills by providing an interesting and comfortable environment to practice everyday English. This class may be taken by itself or together with an EPP class.
The Chitchat Café classes are Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Friday from 3-5pm or Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday from 3-5pm. Morning classes are also available. The Chitchat Café classes are open to all students (F-1 and visa waiver students) who place in a level 1-3 class.
Note: Visa waiver students enrolling for one month or more have
the option of choosing the EPP or the Chitchat Café. If a visa waiver student
chooses the EPP s/he can only study Monday through Thursday, four hours
a day for a total of 16 hours a week.
These programs give students the ability and confidence to communicate
in various situations using all four major language skills – speaking,
listening, reading, and writing. To facilitate these skills, students
are also given additional work in pronunciation vocabulary/idioms, grammar
and writing/reading. Students are placed into the appropriate level
based on their performance in the placement evaluation process.
